Men's Basketball Shoots Their Way to Win over St. Cloud Tech

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team once again found their shooting stroke at home knocking down 14 threes in a 93-79 win over St. Cloud Technical and Community College on Saturday afternoon.

In their last four home games the Golden Rams have made on average 13.8 threes connecting on 52.7 percent of their long-range shots.

Four straight points from DeAndre Jones opened up a 19-13 lead for the Golden Rams midway through the a tightly contested first half.

The Cyclones pulled within 28-27 but a three from Kevin Schramm pushed the lead back to four.

Both teams traded baskets through the rest of the half with Anoka-Ramsey eventually taking a 40-39 lead into the break.

A Cyclone layup made the score 52-48 with 16:35 to play, but a Justin Castro layup and a three from Malik El-Amin put the Golden Rams up 57-48.

After a SCTCC three, Jones connected from long-range to keep the score at a nine point advantage, 60-51.

Five straight Cyclone points pulled them within four before a 12-0 run Anoka-Ramsey run extended the lead to 16 points, 72-56 with 9:41 left.

The lead ballooned to 20 points following two Chris Morgan free throws.

St. Cloud Tech chipped away and pulled within 12 with 3:36 left, but Jackson Odegard hit a big three to provide a little more cushion and the Golden Rams would go on for the win.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 49.3 percent overall and made 14 of 27 from behind the arc.

The Golden Rams also held a 36-27 edge on the glass.

Jones lead Anoka-Ramsey with 18 points making 8 of 9 shot including 2 of 2 from three.

Schramm finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

James Lloyd chipped in 13 while Castro (11) and El-Amin (10) rounded out the double-figure scorers.

Morgan, Odegard, and Elijah Linear each tallied nine points apiece.

Anoka-Ramsey improves to 10-7 overall, 4-0 in the MCAC Southern Division.

The Golden Rams will travel to Worthington on Wednesday, January 24 to face Minnesota West.
