Balanced Attack Leads Men's Basketball Over Riverland

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team started MCAC Southern Division play 2-0 after defeating Riverland 89-66 on Saturday afternoon in Austin, MN.

The Golden Rams used a balanced scoring attack with seven players tallying eight points or more in the win.

Chris Morgan knocked down a three with five seconds left in the first half to give the Golden Rams a 43-30 lead at the break.

After Riverland pulled within ten, Kevin Schramm knocked down a shot, followed by consecutive field goals from Justin Castro and Anoka-Ramsey extended the lead to 16 points.

Two James Lloyd free throws pushed the lead to 20 points, 57-37 with 15:10 left in the game and the Golden Rams were able to answer Riverland basket for basket throughout the rest of the contest.

Riverland got no closer than 16 points as the Golden Rams went up by as many as 24 points.

The Golden Rams finished the afternoon shooting 53.3 percent overall and made 9 of 17 three-point attempts (52.9 percent).

Castro finished with 19 points on 8 of 13 shooting.

Schramm scored 15 points and pulled in ten rebounds.

Lloyd chipped in 14 points, with Morgan scoring 12 and Malik El-Amin notching ten.

DeAndre Jones and Elijah Linear each scored eight points.

The Golden Rams improve to 8-7 overall and will host M|State Fergus Falls on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:30pm.
