Golden Rams Triumph Over Cavaliers

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team took care of business in their first MCAC Southern Division game defeating Western Tech 78-66 on Wednesday evening in La Crosse, WI.

The Golden Rams opened up an early six point lead after a made three from James Lloyd and still led by six, 20-14 with 11:26 to play in the first half before an 8-2 Western Tech spurt tied the score at 22 apiece with 8:07 to play.

Neither team could take control the rest of the half and Western Tech entered the break with a 38-35 lead.

The Cavaliers extended their lead to 47-41 just three minutes into the second half, but Anoka-Ramsey countered with a 9-0 run to ahead 50-47 just a minute later.

Western Tech answered with four straight points to retake the lead before a three from Chris Morgan jump-started an 11-0 Golden Ram run that would see the visitors take command and never trail again.

Morgan finished with a game-high 21 points making 8 of 14 from the field and 3 of 7 from the three-point line.

Kevin Schramm scored 15 points while James Lloyd chipped in with 13 and Justin Castro had 10.

The Golden Rams even their overall record at 7-7 and are 1-0 in the MCAC.

Anoka-Ramsey travels to Riverland on Saturday, January 13 for a 3:00pm tip.
