Men's Basketball Splits Northern Trip

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Men's Basketball team split their road trip to Northern Division schools Rainy River and Hibbing last week, falling 75-70 to Rainy River on Friday night before beating Hibbing 100-56 Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams fell behind early against Rainy River and trailed 43-31 at halftime.

Rainy River extended the lead to 15 points early in the second half before Anoka-Ramsey started chipping away.

A 6-0 run, followed later by a 9-1 run contributed to tying the score 64-64 with 5:21 to play.

Chris Morgan knocked down a three-point attempt to give Anoka-Ramsey a 67-66 lead with 2:35 left.

Two Rainy River free throws put them back up by one.

Consecutive Anoka-Ramsey turnovers prevented the Golden Rams from retaking the lead and Rainy River sealed the game from the free throw line.

James Lloyd led Anoka-Ramsey with 17 points making 4 of 5 three-point attempts.

Morgan scored 16 points to go with nine rebounds.

Kevin Schramm scored 14 points and pulled in eight rebounds.

Justin Castro scored 13 points.

On Saturday afternoon the Golden Rams opened a big lead on Hibbing and never looked back.

The Golden Rams opened a 10-3 lead which was extended to 27-7 and eventually ballooned to 44-11 at halftime.

Anoka-Ramsey shot 50 percent overall and made 15 of 28 three-point attempts in the win.

DeAndre Jones led the Golden Rams with 25 points making 9 of 14 field goals.

Schramm scored 24 points to go with 11 rebounds.

Lloyd finished with 20 making 3 of 8 three-point attempts.

The Golden Rams are now 4-5 overall on the season.
