Golden Rams Swept by Nationally Ranked Cyclones

The Anoka-Ramsey Community College Baseball team hosted nationally ranked St. Cloud Technical and Community College and fell 10-3 and 17-5 in the doubleheader.

In game one the Golden Rams scored first in the bottom of the first inning.

But the Cyclones led off the top of the second with a home run and tallied four runs in the inning to lead 4-1.

St. Cloud tacked on two more runs in the top of the third, but the Golden Rams answered with two of their own to keep the game at a three run deficit.

Cody Herrmann doubled to left center driving in two runs in the inning.

St. Cloud added two more runs in the fourth and another two in the sixth to pull away.

The Golden Rams had eight hits but committed four errors.

Ryan Lust went 3-4 scoring two runs.

Herrmann went 2-4 with three RBI.

Austin Greiner suffered the loss.

Game two saw the Golden Rams put up a valiant fight, taking the Cyclones to extra innings, but ran out of gas late giving up 12 runs in the top of the 13th inning to fall 17-5.

Anoka-Ramsey fell behind 4-0 entering the bottom of the third inning and it looked like the Cyclones would win easily, but responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score at four apiece.

St. Cloud tacked on a run in the fifth, but the Golden Rams would tie the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a bases loaded walk in a game scheduled for nine innings.

The score would remain at five until St. Cloud blew the game open with their 13th inning onslaught.

Jake Hansen started the game and threw nine innings giving up five runs and walking one batter.

Hansen also went 3-6 from the plate.

After the game, Coach Saulsbury commented, "Even though the final score doesn't reflect how the majority of the game went for us, we were grinding the whole way.  Jake Hansen threw tremendously for us and there was a whole bunch of good things we can take away from this game.  To take the 5th rated team in the country to 13 innings, is a great thing for our program.  Unfortunately, in the end we just ran short on pitching and St. Cloud Tech is not the team to run short on pitching against.  I really like the direction the squad is heading in and this loss will actually pay many dividends for us in the long run."
